Claude Heath: Drawing from Sculpture
Claude Heath: Drawing from Sculpture
Description
In February 1999, Claude Heath undertook a two-week residency at the Institute as part of a series of contemporary artists' Dialogues with the Sculpture Collection of Leeds Museums & Galleries. He chose to work blindfolded, working directly from four sculptures in the collection; simultaneously tracing the object with one hand, and drawing it with the other.
Heath's drawings provide a record of explorations into the dialogue between sense and perception, working as a form of research or as cognitive experiments.
Following the residency, Heath enlarged his drawings into murals for a later exhibition. This publication reproduces the original drawings, along with commentaries by the artist on his experiences while drawing from these objects.
There may be signs of age or yellowing to the pages as these are original copies from the publishing year. This is reflected in the pricing of the text.
