Description

Relief, a way of making sculpture and embellishing objects, is an often overlooked technique. In a post-modern world where simplicity is highly valued, relief sculpture has simply become less and less common.

In earlier periods, relief decoration was used on a diverse array of objects, in many materials, and in a range of situations. This catalogue suggest places where relief was encountered and the meanings which relief could evoke.

With an introduction by Penelope Curtis (Curator of the Henry Moore Institute), three essays and a catalogue of each work in the exhibition, described in detail by Stephen Feeke and Katherine Hunt.
