Description

This publication celebrates the centenary of British sculptor Gilbert Ledward (1888-1960). One of the 'almost forgotten generation' of twentieth century sculptors, Ledward's work is nevertheless instantly recognisable; his most famous and prominent works include the Guards' Division Memorial in St James' Park and the Venus Fountain in Sloane Square.

Ledward is also remembered as the Professor of Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in the late 1920s, whose controversial assistant was the young Henry Moore.

The catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition Gilbert Ledward RA PRBS 1888-1960: Drawings for Sculpture: A Centenary Tribute at The Fine Art Society, London (25 January - 19 February 1988).
