Description

Alex Woodcock's journey to becoming a stonemason began in the edgelands of suburban Sussex, where he spent his youth skateboarding and listening to bands like The Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus. But it wasn't until he was in his thirties, exhausted from years as an academic, archaeologist, and scholar of medieval sculpture, that he picked up tools and carved stone for the first time. Working with his hands was a revelation.

King of Dust is a craftman's journey through the landscapes and ancient sculpture that inspired him. Weaving memoir with the stories of medieval stonecarvings and their carvers, the book is a celebration of the transformative power of art.
