Description
This catalogue, and the exhibition from which it stems, is the result of a joint fellowship by Sarah Staton and Jane Simpson, and reflects their practices as both artists and curators. The fellowship enabled the artists to pursue a mutual obsession to ‘identify a sculptural family’ through archival research and by initiating discussion with other artists and curators.
As their own artwork has often been concerned with the arrangement of objects, it seemed only natural that Staton and Simpson were later invited to select works from the Leeds sculpture collections and curate them into an exhibition. The artist-curators promptly immersed themselves in catalogues from the Institute’s Archive and visited store rooms in the bowels of Leeds City Art Gallery.
This publication records the journey of exploration the two artists undertook through an extensive interview with Sophie Raikes (Assistant Curator (Sculpture), the Henry Moore Institute).
There may be signs of age or yellowing to the pages as these are original copies from the publishing year. This is reflected in the pricing of the text.
