Description

The relief sculpture adorning the Institute of Chartered Accountants Building in London represents one of the most important commissions uniting sculpture and architecture to have been realised in Victorian Britain.

The history of this exceptional achievement, a collaboration between sculptor Hamo Thornycroft and the architect John Belcher, can be carefully charted from the surviving drawings, correspondence and other archival material, much of which is held in the extensive Thornycroft archive at the Institute.
